Service Description

This one day workshop (10am-3.30pm) covers the basic skills for fusing and slumping glass into a platter. Students will learn: - Cutting glass - Glass behaviour under temperature - Design - Preparing glass for firing - Slumping onto a mould - Basic firing schedule You will make 2 glass pieces: a small piece 13-17cm square/round, and a medium piece 21-26cm square/round. The day will start with a couple of videos showing fusing and cutting basic over coffee/tea. I will be on hand to explain more and answer questions. Into the studio where you will learn to cut class. Before lunch you will pick your 2 platter moulds and look at the glass that is available and examples highlighting various techniques. Students will work with a range of glass including sheet glass, frit, powder, stringer. After lunch, you will design your pieces then cut your chosen glass. You will then clean your glass and assemble it into the kiln. The basic firing schedule will be discussed. Included in the course • Glass for 2 pieces • 2 Firings • Course notes • Hire of equipment: • Eye glasses • Mask P2 • Glass cutter • Running Pliers • Square Tea and coffee are provided. Students need to bring: • Suitable clothing: long pants, covered shoes, and an apron • If you prefer bring your own PPE: safety glasses and a P2 dust mask • Please bring your lunch and water bottles if its hot Please note, your slumped pieces will be available 3 days after the workshop. You will need to come back to the studio to pick up or we can arrange to send the finished works.

Cancellation Policy

The following Terms and Conditions apply to all workshops and courses Cancellations All workshops have a minimum enrolment required for the workshop to run. Siju Glass reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course at any time. In such an event, the class fee can be transferred to a rescheduled date, applied to a different class or fully refunded. Siju Glass is not responsible for reimbursing travel costs or other associated expenses. Students who cancel or transfer their enrolment 4 or more days prior to the beginning of a class will receive a refund of the class fee. If you cancel or transfer to another class within 4 days prior to the course commencement, then an administration fee of $50 applies and will be deducted from your refund. No transfers or refunds will be granted once the class has started. ​ COVID All class/workshop attendees will be required to comply with the current government guidelines. Students who are not willing to comply with these directives will be asked to leave the workshop and will not be refunded. If a workshop is canceled due to a covid we will reschedule the workshop to suit the participants. If you are unable to attend a class due to Covid, then please advise and we will transfer you to another class.
