Service Description

This workshop covers the technique of boiling glass. You will need to have completed a beginner's glass course. Students will learn: - Glass under hot firing - Colour combinations and reactions - Boiling glass basics - Slumping onto a mould - Basic firing schedule This workshop is divided into 2 days: Day 1 - 10am-4pm You will make 2 glass pieces using 3kg glass initially 30 x 30cm and 15 x 15 cm - NB the glass grows during firing. Over tea/coffee, I will explain the idea behind boiling glass and show you some examples. Into the studio, you will design your pieces, pick out the glass and cut to your design. You will then clean your glass and assemble it into the kiln. The basic firing schedule will be discussed. Day 2 - 10am-1pm Following the firing you will come back for half a day to decide what you want to do with your glass. If you have completed my cold working workshop, then you can use the cold working equipment. If not, you can use hand tools to prepare your glass for slumping using available moulds. I will show you how to prepare moulds. Included in the course • Glass for 2 piece • 2 Firings • Course notes • Hire of equipment: • Eyeglasses • Mask P2 • Glass cutter • Running Pliers • Square Tea and coffee are provided. Students need to bring: • Suitable clothing: long pants, covered shoes, and an apron • If you prefer bring your own PPE: safety glasses, P2 dust mask, and cutting equipment • Please bring your lunch if you want and water bottles if it's hot Please note, your slumped pieces will be available >3 days after the workshop. You will need to come back to the studio to pick up or we can arrange to send the finished works.

Cancellation Policy

The following Terms and Conditions apply to all workshops and courses Cancellations All workshops have a minimum enrolment required for the workshop to run. Siju Glass reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course at any time. In such an event, the class fee can be transferred to a rescheduled date, applied to a different class or fully refunded. Siju Glass is not responsible for reimbursing travel costs or other associated expenses. Students who cancel or transfer their enrolment 4 or more days prior to the beginning of a class will receive a refund of the class fee. If you cancel or transfer to another class within 4 days prior to the course commencement, then an administration fee of $50 applies and will be deducted from your refund. No transfers or refunds will be granted once the class has started. ​ COVID All class/workshop attendees will be required to comply with the current government guidelines. Students who are not willing to comply with these directives will be asked to leave the workshop and will not be refunded. If a workshop is canceled due to a covid we will reschedule the workshop to suit the participants. If you are unable to attend a class due to Covid, then please advise and we will transfer you to another class.
