Service Description

This half-day workshop (10am-1pm) covers the basic skills for making Pot Melts using leftover glass. Students will learn: - Glass under hot firing - Colour combinations - Preparing glass for putting into the pot - Slumping onto a mould - Basic firing schedule You will make 1 glass piece using 1kg glass. This will then be slumped into a bowl using either metal or ceramic moulds. Over tea/coffee I will explain the idea behind pot melts and show you some examples. Into the studio you will pick out glass for the pot melt and load your pot. Glass will include 50% of clear glass. Sheet and frit can be used. Some pieces may need cutting. You can also used glass that has already been fired. You will then clean your glass and assemble it into the kiln. The basic firing schedule will be discussed. You will pick your bowl moulds. I will show you how to prepare moulds. Included in the course • Glass for 1 piece • 2 Firings • Course notes • Hire of equipment: • Eye glasses • Mask P2 • Glass cutter • Running Pliers • Square • Flower Pot Tea and coffee are provided. Students need to bring: • Suitable clothing: long pants, covered shoes, and an apron • If you prefer bring your own PPE: safety glasses and a P2 dust mask • Please bring your lunch if you want and water bottles if its hot Please note, your slumped pieces will be available >3 days after the workshop. You will need to come back to the studio to pick up or we can arrange to send the finished works.
